This wonderful book is on the significant role the culture of gastronomy used to play on Chinese society in history – and continues to do so even now. I had the pleasure to contribute a set of illustrations, accompanied by handwritten headlines for the various recipes. Although I was commissioned to produce maps, which I regarded boring, I decided to create still-lives using dishes characteristic for the specific regions. Inspired by Arcimboldo, I just embedded the maps among the food.
